July examug – An affinity for upgrades

Next Tuesday is our July examug meeting, and we have another great one planned. There’s lots of news, but we also have two great presentations planned.

It starts with a special talk the Affinity Suite. To ‘Photoshop’ something is now as common a phrase as to ‘Google it’ or to ‘Hoover the house’ but that does not mean there are not some great alternatives to Adobe’s powerful image editor. Affinity Photo, Publisher and Designer are very high quality alternatives to Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, but with one important difference…they’re not subscription based. You buy what need and that’s it. No ongoing monthly payments. Don’t get us wrong, we are not anti-subscription or anti-Adobe, but it’s good to know about the alternatives.

We plan to take a look at the amazing, award winning Affinity suite (https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/). We will give you our take and show you some of the things it can do. Whether you’re a seasoned photoshop expert or a novice we will ensure there is something for you!

After the break we have a mini talk all about this September’s big upgrade! The next macOS – Catalina – will be available this autumn, and it will bring some great new features for all. We will go over what you will need to do before you press the tempting upgrade button.  We will cover hardware requirements, best practice installation strategies and application suitability – as Apple has been warning us for some years, the end of 32-bit applications is now upon us we will explain what this means for you and how to be fully prepared.

It’s going be our usual mix of accessible presentation and chat.  It will be suitable for all, from the most techie to the newbie, and we guarantee you’ll learn something new.

We are not running a raffle at this meeting, instead we are looking to move towards a larger biennial raffle with even better prizes!
